How To Select Your New Grandfather Clock

Your new Grandfather Clock will be a lifetime investment that you will enjoy for many years. It is easy to select a new Grandfather Clock based on the features you wish to use.

Style, Size and Finish:

It is best first to decide between Cherry, Oak or Black finishes based on your current decorating scheme in your home.

Traditional Grandfather Clocks usually have a split pediment at the top of the clock with a finial (spire) between the two curved sections.

This style is the most popular, and the design is the most visualized when one thinks of a grandfather clock.

Contemporary Grandfather Clocks: These clocks are more linear in design and extensive use of glass panels, usually with a mirrored back. Darler finishes like espresso and black are common in contemporary grandfather clocks.

Mora Grandfather Clocks: Mora-style grandfather clocks have upwardly curved sides and a round dial. They were the first style grandfather clocks and were made in Sweden.

Pinch Waist Grandfather Clocks: This has a square base, and the midsection of the clock tapers in the center where the pendulum swings. The top is usually wider than the mid-section, with a separate hinged door for the dial.

Curio Grandfather Clocks: These clocks will offer shelves on either side of the pendulum to showcase smaller collectibles.

These choices only will narrow your search to a smaller selection of new grandfather clocks in the finish of your choice. After selecting the finish you would like for your new grandfather clock, you may choose your chime option at the top of the page.

New Grandfather Clock Chime Options:

Westminster Chime Clock
Westminster Chime Grandfather Clocks have a lever on the dial to turn the chime on or off. If you wish to turn off the chime in the evening, you simply move the lever on the dial to the silence position.

Westminster Chime Clock with Automatic Night Time Silence
Westminster Chime Clocks with Automatic Night Time Silence cost more to build as they have a full 24 hour time train inside so there is an AM and a PM for the clocks. You may select the night silence function, and from that time on, the clock will automatically remember to turn off the chime between 10:00PM and 7:00AM every night.
There is also a way to silence the clock completely if you wish.

Triple Chime Grandfather Clock with Automatic Night Time Silence
If set, these clocks will also be silent between 10:00PM and 7:00AM every night, and the movement can play Westminster Chimes, Whittington Chimes, and St Michael’s Chime. There is a lever on the side of the dial to choose your chime melody and another to silence, night silence, or play for 24 hours. All clocks that offer Triple Chime will also come standard with Automatic Nighttime Silence.
