GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE TIDES AND THIS TIDE ONLY CLOCK
The primary controller of the tides is the moon, It circles the earth twice in a period of 24 hours 50 minutes and 30 seconds, This period of time is referred to as the” lunar” or ” tidal” day, The East coasts of North and South America and the West coasts of Europe and Africa follow the semi-diurnal pattern of two high and two low tides a ” tidal” day, spaced more or less equally apart, Other coasts, such as the West coasts of North and South America, are not semi-diurnal and this clock will be of no use in these areas, This clock has a special movement which follows the” lunar” day, The action of the tide is very complex and involves many factors which must be considered to describe exactly the tide at any given place, This clock does not claim to indicate the exact time of each tide at a given place, but it will give you an average,
ACTIVATING CLOCK
Install one” AA ” size alkaline battery in the battery holder on the back of the clock as indicated by the (+) and (-) symbols,
SETTING TIDE TIME
Check for the local times of the high and low tides for the day, Use the knob on the back of the clock to rotate the tide hand to the appropriate location based on the current time, for Example: If the current local time is 5:00 p.m. and high tide for the day is at 4:00 p.m. the tide hand should be set at the “1 Hour After High” position.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
When the second hand stops or its movement becomes erratic this is a sign of a weak or exhausted battery and the battery should be replaced, Never leave an exhausted battery in your clock as it may leak and damage the movement.
